Hackney New School is an exciting, oversubscribed secondary school, which opened in September 2013. Everyone shares the belief that an outstanding education can be provided to children from a wide range of backgrounds, if they are being challenged in all aspects of their academic and personal development. Students at Hackney New School benefit from an extended school day which includes opportunities for prep and enrichment.
Their core vision is to provide students with access to the widest range of opportunities in life by fostering academic excellence and instilling self-belief, intellectual curiosity and responsibility towards others in society. It is expected that the successful Trainee Science Teacher can complement these values both in their teaching and overall involvement in the school.
We know that two full years in a school will enable you to become a confident and reflective practitioner. Through rich experiences in a consistent setting blended with online learning and insightful residentials, Premier Pathways develops you at a steady pace.
Our salaried programme supports you financially, whilst both a University Tutor and Premier Pathways Mentor nurture your academic progress and well-being. This unique combination of no tuition fees, educational support and peer network allows you to focus on the fundamentals of teaching and learning and refining your practice.
The first year of the programme will see you join your school in a support role capacity, working towards the standards of a Teaching Assistant apprenticeship. This will equip you with the skills, knowledge and behaviours required for a successful career in education and allowing you to practice them within the context of your school.
The second year is when your PGCE will commence, taught by the highly esteemed University of Buckingham. Your teaching timetable will increase as you put your theoretical understanding and practical experience to effect, remaining at a pace that is both challenging and comfortable.
Hackney New School is looking for a Science Graduate who wants to make a difference. Purposeful individuals with a passion for their subject, a desire to contribute and a determination to advance the life chances of young people will be warmly welcomed and valued. Music is at the heart of school life and every child who joins learns an instrument. As such, any graduate with a musical flair will have a great opportunity to get involved with this brilliant initiative.
